Things to Do and Things to Learn About in January

By December 29, 2012

Each month of the year is designated as months to commemorate events, people, or ideas. That is on top of the holidays and special days that fall in the month. I always like those special topics and holidays because it offers opportunities to teach kids about important or interesting topics. For example, Constitution Day is a good day to help your child learn about the Constitution.

Not everyone is interested in every issue or special day, but some topics seem tailor made for gifted children and their families. The special days and holidays for the first seven days of January include New Year's Day, of course, but there are others, like Trivia Day, that can be fun for gifted kids.

Consider, too, some of the topics of the month for January. Did you know that January is "It's Okay to Be Different Month"? What a great month for gifted kids. What can you do with that topic? Or with the focus of "International Creativity Month"? Check out the ideas and references on the January month-long observances page.
