Feeling Alone? Join the Forum!

Thursday June 1, 2006
"You're so lucky!" "Your son is smart. He'll be fine." "I wish my son was that smart. Must be nice." Do you hear comments like these? Most parents of gifted children do. If things aren't running smoothly, such comments can make us feel like we're failing Parenting 101. Worse than the comments, though, are the looks we sometimes get from other parents when we share something clever or amusing our child has done. These are the kind of icy glares that tell us that we are being rude -- we're bragging. After all, not ALL children are so smart. These two common kinds of responses from other parents can make the parents of gifted children feel quite alone. We have no one to share our worries or joys with, no one who understands. If you're feeling a little lonely and misunderstood or if you want to share something about your son or daugher, join the Gifted Children Site Forums and tell us about yourself and your gifted children. Everyone here will understand!

Dear earnetmek,

You certainly are not alone in the world. If you are feeling alone and depressed please, please reach out to a family member, or contact a therapist or a counselor.

If you don’t have anyone to talk with, please call a suicide crisis hotline. In the United States, you can call 1-800-784-2433 or 1-800-273-8255. Here is a web site that lists other hotline numbers in the U.S. and around the world:

If you know someone around you who is being a little shady and you are getting uncomfortable around them, then maybe you might want to run a small background report on the person in question to make sure that they are ‘who they say they are’.

Many people misrepresent themselves as the situation benefits them

His/her cellphone is often switched off when you are trying to get into contact.
Your spouse is particularly attentive or particularly inattentive towards you.
Your spouse tries to pick fights with you so that he/she can storm out of the house and disappear for a few hours.

If any of the above topics rings bell for you, its TIME for you to request us to find more about cheating spouse.
