When a public schools can't or won't meet the needs of our gifted child, it might be time to explore the private school option. However, not all private schools are good schools for gifted kids. If you know of a private school that is well suited to the education of gifted children, tell us about the school and what makes it a good school for gifted kids. Recommend a school

School for Gifted and Talented

Riddle Street Montessori, in McKinney, TX is a school for children PK3-6th grade. Here, they individualize the curriculum for each kid's capability. Multi-age grouping and open-ended compact curriculum meets the individual child's needs. They specialize in early childhood gifted education. They use Montessori Philosophy of "Follow the Child" to teach these kids. The teachers are passionate and understand the needs of the gifted and work with them. The school is founded by the mother of two gifted kids who are also students in the school is an added advantage. They also have an educational psychologist and Prof of Gifted Education from UNT in their advisory board which is a big plus.

Great School for Gifted Kids

Advent Episcopal School, is a P4-8th grade school in Birmingham, AL. It is a good match for gifted kids because they start with only kids who can achieve (entrance requirement of high achievement scores based on the level they will enter), keep a rigorous pace (by their final year they are studying curriculum that is two years ahead of their peers) and offer a number of opportunities to use their creativity in producing products to reflect their learning. They learn French from K4 through graduation, have a world class ensemble, and have an art teacher who teaches passion because she is an artist. There are many school traditions such as the 2nd and 8th grade plays, annual success at the French convention with song and skit, and an annual Lessons and Carols celebration each December. I teach gifted children and recognize the value of giving children an opportunity to learn with other gifted children in such a stimulating environment.
