Renew Your Child's Interest in Those Old and Easy Jigsaw Puzzles

By Carol Bainbridge, About.com

Gifted children love jigsaw puzzles. They also love a challenge, so when the puzzles become too easy, the children lose interest. Don't throw those old puzzles away, though! Renew your children's interest in those old puzzles with these tricks.
  • Combine Puzzles
Take two (or more) easy puzzles and mix up the pieces. If your child is now working with 100 piece puzzles, combine two 50 piece puzzles or three 25 piece puzzles. He or she will have to look through more pieces to in order to put together three different puzzles.

  • Turn Pieces Upside Down
Take the old puzzles and turn the pieces over. Your child will have only shape as cues to determine which pieces fit together. Without the colors and picture, it's more challenging.
