Definition: Multipotentiality refers to the quality a person has to excel in more than one area. That means that a child with multipotentiality can choose any one of several career paths, and those paths are not necessarily related. For example, a child who is adept at and interested in biological sciences may choose from many career paths in the various fields of biology. They may want to become a biology teacher or a veterinarian, or a researcher, depending on exactly where their interests lie.
However, multipotentiality opens up far more options since the career paths are not necessarily related. For example, a child may be interested and good at science and music, or math and dance, or theater and history. And as the prefix "multi" implies, a child may have numerous potentialities, not just two.
Multipotentiality can be a problem for gifted children, many of whom have numerous talents, interests, and interests.
