Toys of Interest to Gifted Children

It's that time of year when the majority of parents begin looking for toys to buy for children. Unfortunately, many parents of gifted children get frustrated, and maybe a little disappointed, when the toy they thought would be perfect for their child ends up sitting in the back of some closet, virtually untouched.
Of course, parents can have this problem at other times of the year. If your child is often less than thrilled with the toys you buy, you might want to take a look at some criteria for evaluating toys before you buy a new toy. I don’t find this difficult most of the time. I let her guide my decisions. I know that she likes toys that she can do creative play with. If the toy only does one thing I won’t buy it for her (no matter how much she thinks she wants it).
She is constantly making up stories (she is a little director) so playdough, dolls (boys & girls! what kind of story only contains girls?) w/ LOTS of clothes to change them into, stuffed animals, etc. are always good choices in our house.
