Learning comes so easily to gifted children that they sometimes don't understand the process. It is not unusual for some gifted kids to think that if they can't grasp a concept the first time it's introduced, they must be stupid. For example, a child who taught himself to read at age three might think he's dumb because he has to think for a minute about a math problem. He doesn't understand that learning often requires some effort. The best way to deal with this problem is to provide challenging activities for your child and encourage effort and perseverence.
