Happy Days of Summer

Saturday July 1, 2006
Did you know that there is a free and easy informal test to determine if a child is gifted? It's not 100% accurate, but it's pretty close. What is it? This test consists of two questions to ask a parent:

1) Are you relieved when school gets out and your child is home for the summer?
2) Do you dread the start of school in the fall?

Okay, so this isn't a real test, but it does seem that the majority of parents of gifted children are happy when their children are home for the summer. The school year is often quite stressful as these parents deal with their children's frustrations and boredom at school and their own frustration as they try to get their children more appropriate school work. Parents of non-gifted children, on the other hand, tend to be the opposite. They dread the summer months when the kids are home with nothing to do.

Try the test yourself! See how many parents of gifted children are relieved to see the happy days of summer.
