Of course we want our child to excel in school, but that means we want him to learn and to be challenged, to understand the value of persistence and hard work. For some gifted kids, though, straight A's don't mean that they are doing anything more than meeting the requirements for an A.
The question we want to ask is whether our child is working to get those A's or just sailing though assignments and acing tests without so much as cracking open a book. Does it matter? Yes, it does. If your child doesn't have to put forth any effort in school, those straight A's can indeed be a sign of trouble.
