The third Monday of February is the day we set aside to celebrate George Washington's birthday. Because February is also the birth month of Abraham Lincoln, we ofter refer to that Monday as "Presidents' Day" so we can honor both great presidents.
We have many great presidents so many teachers use the whole week to study U.S. presidents, referring to the week as "Presidents' Week." To close off Presidents' Week, I thought it might be a good idea for parents and their kids to learn a bit about Abraham Lincoln. One great way to do this is to read one of the many excellent biographies of Lincoln. There are plenty available for kids of all ages, from toddlers to older teens (and adults).

I teach Kindergarten and we had a wonderful couple of weeks talking about presidents. We learned about George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, President Obama, and what it takes to be a good president. My two favorite biographies to us are: Abe Lincoln’s Hat by Martha Brenner and George Washington’s Teeth by Deborah Chandra.
