On September 17, 1787, the members of the Constitutional Congress met for the last time with the sole purpose of signing the new Constitution of the United States. It replaced the Articles of Confederation and has served our country ever since. That is an amazing tribute to those framers of the document.
The U.S. has had just one Constitution in 223 years! If that doesn't sound like much of an accomplishment, then consider that France has had had 12 since 1791, and that doesn't count the three different charters adopted when the Monarchy was restored for a time. Their latest Constitution was adopted in 1958.
Help your children learn about the American Constitution with books about it. You can also print out a crossword puzzle on the signers of the Constitution or have them learn a little trivia about the Constitution (we know how much our kids love trivia!) If that's not enough, take a look at the Constitution Day Website. It is full of information and activities for kids of all ages.
